Just a day after Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia’s tweet about Surat airport, Air India Express is set to kick off a daily Dubai flight from Surat as reported by TOI.
The flight is scheduled to take off early in the morning, reaching its destination around 9 am, and returning by 1 pm. Surprisingly, the airport authorities seem to be in the dark about this development.
Sources suggest that bookings for this exciting new flight will commence on December 14. Notably, this could mark a historic moment, with the flight potentially taking off in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the inauguration of Surat airport’s expanded terminal.
The new flight, expected to operate daily or four times a week, is a significant step forward. If successful, Surat may also see the introduction of a Hong Kong flight. This move addresses a long-standing demand from diamond traders and residents, given Dubai’s strategic connectivity to the global map.
Currently, Surat only offers a flight to Sharjah five days a week. For travelers heading to the US or Europe from Dubai, the previous inconvenience of traveling an hour from Sharjah will soon be eliminated, making international travel more accessible for Surat residents.
As quoted by TOI, Surat Airport Director Rupesh Kumar, however, expressed unawareness of any Dubai flight at present, adding an air of suspense to this exciting development.
