An Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student has been suspended from the hostel after he allegedly made objectionable comments about Prophet Mohammad. The comments made by the 18-year-old sparked outrage among his classmates, reported Times of India. The AMU administration expelled the senior secondary school student and has also initiated the process to expel him from the university. A police case has been registered against him.
“There was anger in the student community after the student made the alleged objectionable remark against the Prophet. Keeping in mind the students’ demands, he was suspended and immediately expelled from the hostel. A police complaint was filed against him on Tuesday,” AMU’s assistant proctor Syed Ali Nawab Zaidi said.
A case has been registered against the student at Civil Lines police station under IPC Sections 295-A (deliberate acts to outrage religious feelings), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace).
The expelled student, on Monday, allegedly started saying wrong words about Islam and the Prophet Mohammad at the Allama Iqbal hostel. When other students tried to stop him, he abused and threatened them as well as made offensive remarks.
“When the complainant tried to stop the accused, he abused and threatened him. Investigation is being conducted, and action will be taken accordingly,” Aligarh DSP Suman Kanojia said. The accused was later handed over to his parents.

Earlier, a group of non-teaching employees of AMU had taken out protests demanding regularisation of ad hoc employees. The protestors conducted a ‘funeral procession’ starting from Duck Point inside the campus up to the Registrar’s office against the varsity’s alleged failure to respond to their protest. Addressing the protestors Faisal Rais, one of their leaders, demanded the university pay 1,500 ad hoc employees their long overdue allowances, and increments, and called for regularisation of their services.
