Online dating is to contemporary romance; what Google Maps is to navigation – we can no longer imagine a time when they did not exist. Despite being portrayed as modern, the online dating industry is heavily influenced by traditional gender rules and dynamics. But in the last few years, women are rebelling against such social dictations and are redefining couple interactions. Eliminating preconceived notions, women are fundamentally changing the way they date by questioning the outdated norms that hinder their ability to date the way they choose.

In the last 10 months, we have had the privilege of interacting with the strong and dynamic women who use our platform. “We see women initiate conversations and ask men out on dates, challenging the norm which requires ladies to wait for men to make the first move. This transition not only empowers women to take charge of their dating life, but also encourages open communication, resulting in a more balanced dating atmosphere. By initiating conversations, women are challenging the rigid standards that were forced on them by society in the name of femininity and acceptance. Being assertive and in control of a relationship’s progress is no longer only a man’s domain,” says Saurabh Awasthi, Cofounder, Meet7.

Women are vocal about their choices and boundaries and protect their self-worth at all times. Awasthi adds, “They develop a foundation of mutual respect and understanding by being compassionate and open with prospective partners. Women are no longer looking for providers, but are looking for partners who appreciate and encourage their interests and ambitions. Women are also encouraging men to open up more, by creating a safer space for their partners to be vulnerable.”

Young men and women now distinguish between dating and being committed, where the former allows both to meet like-minded people before entering into a relationship. Awasthi opines, “Not only is this particularly freeing and empowering for women, but it also allows for longer lasting relationships, as both have had a chance to explore before making a commitment. Dating is now viewed more as a tool for self-growth and self-discovery rather than a taboo.”

In conclusion, women are actively questioning preconceptions and redefining societal norms, which is reflected in the evolving dynamics of dating. Women are transforming the digital dating scene by taking responsibility for their attempts, establishing boundaries, and valuing their autonomy. In the process, they are opening the door for a more welcoming and powerful dating culture that benefits people of all genders.
