Dhak Dhak Review: The story revolves around four women, who are trying to find themselves amidst the chaotic journey of life.

Glaciated peaks of Leh and Ladakh and cold zephyrs in the vale carry the fragrance of freedom and life for four women from different backgrounds, who become part of a journey that changes their lives forever. Starring Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanjana Sanghi, Dhak Dhak makes for a refreshing female-led road-trip movie that showcases the twists and turns that women go through in life. Directed by Tarun Dudeja and co-produced by Taapsee Pannu and Viacom18, the film is packed with picturesque locations of North India.

The story revolves around four women, who are trying to find themselves amidst the chaotic journey of life. When opportunity knocks on their door, they manage to take the leap of faith and hop on their cruisers and ride all the way from New Delhi to Khardung La, one of the highest motorable passes. In the words of a rider, Shah, who plays the senior most role of Manpreet Singh Sethi aka Mahi, is the engine of the film. Whereas, Mirza, Shaikh and Sanghi are the throttle. While each character unfolds, you keep realising that the casting has been on point and everyone has stayed true to their roles. It is always a risk to mend four stories together within one film, but Dudeja has managed to weave a warm, touching and meaningful storyline that will ignite the traveller in you.

Dudeja, who has also written the script, focuses on how women are suppressed in the modern-day society, and what they can achieve if they find freedom and enjoy their journey of life. Speaking of Shah’s performance in the film, Mahi is a character, who can make you laugh and cry at the same time with her swift change in emotions and dialogues that show what struggles she has had in her lifetime. Whereas, Mirza, who plays the role of jugaadu mechanic Uzma, is a typical Muslim wife, who has let go of her dreams and life in looking after her family. But her skills and quirky ideas are timely reminders of how women can clearly outsmart anyone when the situation demands.

Fatima Sana Shaikh’s character Sky (Shashi Kumar Yadav), who is a travel vlogger, is dealing with multiple issues on her personal and professional front. A victim of cyber abuse, this journey for her is more than just a road trip to Leh. It actually is a gateway to heaven that will stamp her identity in the society. Lastly, Sanjana Sanghi, the spiritual yet modern woman from Vrindavan, UP, learns to fight her fears and be independent through this journey. As the movie pans through their individual lives, the performances surely deserve to be applauded. Credit also goes to Dudeja to capture the perfect emotions wherever required. Overall, Dhak Dhak is a film that is recommended for those who want to find out if it is the destination that is important or the journey.
