Tesla CEO Elon Musk has shared a video of the company’s new Optimus Gen 2 robot, and from the initial looks, it is quite human-like and performs activities like squats, boiling eggs, and a whole lot more.
Optimus Gen 2 is the newest Tesla robot, and it’s the successor to Optimus Gen 1, which was unveiled in March. Compared to Bumblebee, which was unveiled in September 2021, the year-over-year progress seems to be rapidly advancing.
For those uninitiated, this robot is part of Tesla’s AI and robotics division and takes an AI-first approach. The company says that, coupled with inference hardware, this is the only way to make full self-driving, bipedal robotics.

Tesla Optimus Gen 2 Dances Like A Human, Does Squats, And Boils Eggs
Yes, you read that right. In the video shared by Musk, one can see that the robot is able to perform tasks like doing full-fledged squats, thanks to improved balance and full-body control compared to Gen 1.
Tesla says that the AI-powered robot gets a boost in walk speed, with torque sensing abilities, and resembles the human foot geometry. Plus, the robot has also shed 10kg total weight compared to the last generation.
Further in the video, it goes a step beyond, and using its new faster, 11-DoF hands, picks up an egg to place it in a boiling apparatus. And then as a surprise at the end, the two Tesla Optimus robots show their funky dance moves. And there’s more—you can see detail in the moves, with fine control over fingers, arms, and the lower body, all moving in tandem.
This is something that’s straight out of a science fiction movie. Imagine a future where your robot boils eggs for you and presents them to you right before you leave for the office. It sounds far-fetched right now, but considering the progress of bots like Tesla Optimus, it is looking like a definite possibility in the future.
