Punk became the latest name to be added to the long list of WWE superstars, including Hogan, The Rock, Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Sting, Undertaker, Edge and so on, to make a stunning return to the ring.

CM Punk shocked the world by returning to his former company WWE for the first time since 2014. The ‘Cult of Personality’ was a major part of one of WWE’s most successful eras, establishing himself as a top-tier wrestler, in the industry.

During his tenure as a pro wrestler for the company Punk held the WWE title for a whopping 434 days but soon fell through with the administration which ultimately led to his departure.

In the Survivor Series 2023 pay-per-view, the Chicago-based wrestler caused a thunderous roar in the crowd by appearing on a WWE show for the first time in nine years.

WWE has witnessed several iconic returns such as this in history. Today let’s take a look at the 10 greatest returns in WWE.

Hulk Hogan

The ‘immortal’ Hulk Hogan made a scintillating return to the WWE on a Monday Night Raw Episode that aired live in February 2014. This was the first time in more than six years that the WWE Hall of Famer had stepped into the four-cornered ring.

Chris Jerico

One of Canada’s most celebrated professional wrestlers, Chris Jericho shocked the whole world in the 2013 Royal Rumble. Making a return in the 30-man Battle Royal, the superstar stunned an in-ring Dolph Ziggler who kept looking in disbelief.

Sting

Making an appearance in the Team Cena versus Team Authority Match at the Survivor Series 2014, Sting returned with a vengeance. Having received thunderous applause from the crowd, Sting went straight after Triple H which led to the duo squaring off at Wrestlemania later that year.

Undertaker

One of WWE’s most iconic old guards, the Undertaker emerged from the darkness once again in Wrestlemania 34. The phenom shocked the world, returning to The Show of Shows to accept John Cena’s one-on-one challenge in 2018.

John Cena

Having recovered from a torn pectoral muscle, John Cena made a scintillating return in the 2008 Royal Rumble. The iconic return led to one of the loudest pops from the fans inside the arena while Cena went on to win the match and seal his ticket to Wrestlemania.

Edge

Edge’s surprise entry in the men’s Royal Rumble in 2020 is widely regarded as one of the most iconic returns in WWE history. The Rated R Superstar immediately went on the hunt to land some vicious spears in the match, sparking some of the loudest cheers ever heard in the building.

The Rock

A superstar in and out of the ring, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s blockbuster return in 2011 shook the entire WWE building. The great one returned to Monday Night Raw as the official host of Wrestlemania XXVII scheduled later that year.

Brock Lesnar

Former UFC champion and WWE’s beast incarnate, Brock Lesnar made an unexpected return to WWE Raw in 2012 for the first time since Wrestlemania XX. This led to one of the loudest reactions from the fans in WWE which even stunned an in-ring John Cena.

Randy Orton

WWE’s Apex Predator exploded onto the scene at the 2023 WWE Survivor Series. Orton teamed up with Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, Sami Zayn and Jey Uso to compete in the Men’s War Games.

CM Punk

Quite easily the most unexpected return in WWE history, no one expected Punk to work with the company he disliked so much. Despite their past, Punk made a shocking comeback at the 2023 Survivor Series in Illinois.
