Fazel Atrachali will be leading Gujarat Giants in the upcoming season of Pro Kabaddi League.

Gujarat Giants have named Fazel Atrachali as their captain for the upcoming season Pro Kabaddi League. Atrachali will have Rohit Gulia as his deputy.

After taking over the reins, Fazel, in an exclusive chat with News18 Sports, opened up on the upcoming season and how he’s looking forward to reunite with coach Ram Mehar Singh.

Regarding the preparations for the side ahead of the upcoming season, the skipper said, “Every day we have about six hours of practice, three hours in the morning and three hours in the evening, so we are working hard.”

Fazel is one of the finest defenders in Pro Kabaddi League’s history and with a player of his caliber comes high standards.

The defender talked about the team’s objectives for the season.

“Our target is just to be a champion. No one likes the hard work, but without it you can’t have success. So this is a good mentality to have and we have a good side to compete,” he said.

The star signing was also optimistic of the season with the player having already had a title-winning campaign with the current coach Ram Mehar Singh.

“You know, the last time I worked with the coach, Ram Sir, I was the best defender in the tournament and I was a champion also. Already I am happy with the coach, he is also working hard and I don’t have a problem with this. I think it can help be play better,” he said.

Fazel says the sport of kabaddi has evolved with the growing stature of Pro Kabaddi League which has allowed younger talents to take the spotlight.

“Now kabaddi has totally changed, every season you have young players who are coming in. Five seasons I have been a captain and now I am used to working with the younger players. One thing is that if they listen to me my job will be much easier,” he said.

All eyes will be on the Adani-owned franchise as they will look to improve upon their previous campaign after finishing eighth in the last season. The side will look to improve on that with the additions of several new talents.

Gujarat Giants kick off the season going up against the Telugu Titans at the EKA Arena on December 2, 2023 with their eyes on the title.
