‘I Also Want A Kunbi Certificate:’ Gautami Patil On Maratha Reservation Movement

Popular Marathi folk dancer Gautami Patil is currently grabbing headlines for her debut movie Ghungroo, which is slated to release on December 15. Gautami Patil is also known for her controversial statements and dance. The actress is currently busy with the promotion of her upcoming movie. She also recently announced the release date of her new album song titled Ghotala. It is scheduled to release on December 15 as well. Amid all this, the actress recently came to the spotlight after she was asked about the ongoing Maratha Reservation movement in Maharashtra. Gautami Patil said that she supports and is in favour of her Maratha brothers and sisters. Her statements have now gone viral.

Maharashtra is currently witnessing a fresh agitation by the Maratha community who have been demanding reservation for a long time. The state government has already given prohibitory orders in Beed and Dharashiv districts of the state, after violent protests by the agitators. The Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange also sat on his indefinite fast in support of the reservation demand at a village in Jalna district. Now, during an interaction with media in Pune, Gautami Patil clearly stated, “I also want reservation. I also want a Kunbi certificate.” The Maharashtra government has started issuing Kunbi caste certificates to eligible Maratha community members from Wednesday, paving the way for their inclusion in the OBC category.

Gautami said that the Maratha community should get reservation. She recalled her situation during Covid times and said that it was very bad, but now her work situation has gotten better. Gautami leads her own dance group but recently, a dancer Handvi Patil exited from her dance group and is now posting her own dance videos which are now going viral. While replying to the exit of her fellow dancer from the group, she said, “I have been working in this field since 11 years. Many girls have been trailed by me. Good luck to Hindvi Patil. If anyone breaks away from us, we do not call him a traitor at all. On the contrary, let them be good.”

Gautami Patil shared that she has no plans of entering politics.
