The Lok Sabha Secretariat has suspended eight personnel who were on duty on Wednesday when the Parliament’s security was breached, Parliamentary sources said on Thursday.
The eight staff members have been identified as, Rampal, Arving, Vir Das, Ganesh, Anil, Pradeep, Vimitt and Narendra.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a high level meeting over the breach. BJP National President JP Nadda and Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Pralhad Joshi and Piyush Goyal were also present at the meeting.
SECURITY MEASURES
In view of the breach yesterday, security has also been beefed up in and around the Parliament premises. The measures taken by authorities are:
- Security has been beefed up in and around the Parliament and also at several other government buildings.
- The road leading to transport bhawan barricaded with multiple layers of police checks since last evening.
- Only those vehicles that have authorisation, are being allowed.
- The road towards the Parliament from the National media center has also been barricaded, along with security checks.
- The security is also checking everyone’s shoes today before allowing them to enter the premises.
- Following a protocol similar to that of Airport security, persons wearing boots are being asked to remove the boots.
- Media passes are also being thoroughly checked and scanned.WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY?
A major security breach in the Parliament shook the entire nation on Wednesday, especially because the breach took place on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attacks.
So far a total of six persons have been arrested, including Manorajan D, who jumped from the visitors’ gallery and who is also said to be the mastermind behind the incident. The seventh person is absconding and the police is hunting for him.
The accused are identified as Amol Shinde and Neelam — caught outside the Parliament — Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D — caught inside the LS chamber. Vishal and his wife Vrinda Sharma were also arrested as the accused had met often at Vishal’s residence in Haryana’s Gurugram.
The Delhi Police special cell which was called to probe the matter has registered a case against the accused under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 452 (trespassing), 153 (want only giving provocation with an intent to cause riot), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servants from discharge of his duty) and also under Sections 16 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act [UAPA]. This case been registered at the Parliament Street police station and further investigation is underway.
