Babar Azam is surprisingly not the most searched cricketer in Pakistan but in contrast it is this Indian cricketer who is.

Talismanic India batter Virat Kohli recently emerged as the most searched cricketer in Google’s 25-year history. It is now being learnt that apart from Kohli, young India cricketer Shubman Gill has set another astonishing feat in terms of Google’s top searches of the year 2023.

Gill has found a mention among the top 10 searches for “people” in Pakistan for this year. A report published by Geo News claimed that the 24-year-old has secured the eighth spot on this elite list of personalities.

The report went on to suggest that vloggers Hareem Shah and Aliza Sehar were among the top searches for 2023 in Pakistan. Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff claimed the third spot. Surprisingly, ex-Pakistan captain and star performer Babar Azam was not a part of this list.

Apart from Shubman Gill, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell and Pakistan players Abdullah Shafique, Saud Shakeel and Usman Khan were the other cricketers who appeared in Google’s top trending searches in Pakistan for this year. Usman stole the limelight for some of his remarkable performances in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Having made his international debut in 2020, Shubman Gill has emerged as one of India’s most promising performers in recent times. Gill recently breached the 1000-run mark in his 19th ODI innings to become the fastest Indian player to reach that landmark.

Shubman Gill has six centuries and 13 half-centuries under his belt in ODI cricket. His highest score in the 50-over format is 208. He has a century and a half-century in T20I cricket as well. In Tests, Gill has notched 966 runs, two centuries and four half-centuries in 18 matches. Gill has registered an average of 32.20 in red-ball cricket.

In terms of the top three searched cricket matches, the fixture between Pakistan and New Zealand claimed the top spot. India’s World Cup contest against New Zealand occupied the fourth position. Pakistan’s matches against the Netherlands, India, Sri Lanka and England were also among the top cricket searches on Google this year.

American football star Damar Hamlin is sitting atop the list of the most searched athletes this year. The National Football League (NFL) star, who represents the Buffalo Bills, also became Google’s most-searched person overall in 2023.
