Actor Prateik Babbar got divorced from his ex-wife and film producer Sanya Sagar earlier this year in January. The duo had dated for a while before they got married in 2019. However, things did not work out between the two and they separated. After this, Prateik Babbar started dating Priya Banerjee. He recently opened up about his divorce in an interview.
Speaking to The Times of India, he addressed his divorce for the first time in detail. He said, “We were in love. That’s why we married. I want to give that relationship all the respect that it deserves. We were two different people. We didn’t have time to figure each other out.”
“I think it is extremely important to figure each other out before you jump into a marriage or something concrete. It (The marriage) was rushed. There was some family pressure. I was 32, and I wanted to have kids by 35,” he added.
He added, “We thought we would figure out love and compatibility on our way. It doesn’t work like that. You need to figure out everything before. Emotional frustrations led to bad choices and decisions. I felt betrayed in my marriage. But if that marriage had not failed, I wouldn’t have met the woman in my life today.”
Talking about what he went through after he got divorced, he said, “It was heartbreaking. I was an absolute mess for a really long time. I got married for all the wrong reasons. We thought we would figure out love and compatibility on our way. (But) It doesn’t work like that. You need to figure out everything before. Emotional frustrations led to bad choices and decisions. I felt betrayed in my marriage. But (in retrospect) if that marriage had not failed, I wouldn’t have met the woman in my life today.”
As for his love life now, Prateik is dating actress Priya Banerjee. They have been dating for three years now and made their relationship Instagram official on Valentine’s Day this year.
