World Soil Day is held every year on December 5 to raise awareness about soil health and how it is interconnected to the well-being of our ecosystem and agricultural production. This year, the theme of World Soil Day is “Soil and water, a source of life”.
In India, the issue of soil protection got a major boost after Jagadish Vasudev, popularly known as Sadguru, the founder of the non-profit Isha Foundation started the Save Soil Movement in March 2021.
Jagadish Vasudev launched the initiative by starting a 30,000 km long motorbike journey across 27 countries for over 100 days. The journey started from London on March 21 and ended on June 21 in India. Throughout his journey, he met important stakeholders and commoners and spoke to them about the cause of soil protection.
