Lee Jung-jae, better known for his performance in the much-acclaimed Netflix web series Squid Game has wrapped up 2023 on a noble note. The actor has displayed his acting mettle in the survival-thriller series, portraying the role of Seong Gi-hun. His performance has garnered rave reviews from both viewers and critics alike with Lee Jung-jae bagging the Emmy award for the Best Actor In Drama category. While he has already established his position as a great actor, the 50-year-old has also won hearts for his recent philanthropic feat. Lee Jung-jae has donated prize money of 50 million KRW (roughly 32 lakh) to aid veteran filmmakers of the Korean Senior Filmmaker Association.
According to a report by The Korean Herald, Lee Jung-jae was bestowed with the honour and prize money at the 13th Beautiful Artist Award. An event where the actor will formally present the donation to the Association will be organised by the Shin Young Kyun Arts and Culture Foundation on December 4. The star-studded event will witness the arrival of Lee Hae-ryong — the President of the Association and Moon Cheol-jae — the Secretary-General of the organisation. Earlier on November 30, the Shin Young Kyun Arts and Culture Foundation announced the need for some money to financially support struggling veteran filmmakers in South Korea. And Lee Jung-jae decided to support the cause.
Explaining the reason behind giving away the hefty sum of money to the Korean Senior Filmmaker Association, Lee Jung-jae revealed in a statement, “Whenever I hear of senior members in the industry who devoted their youth to film but are living a hard life, I feel truly sorry, as a junior actor indebted to (their) efforts,” as quoted by The Korean Herald. Sympathising with the veteran filmmakers, he said that “hearing about the challenges” in matters of poverty and illness deeply affects him for which he decided to donate the money.
That’s not all. Contributing to Lee Jung-jae’s generosity, Shin Young Kyun Arts and Culture Foundation revealed that Harim Co. Ltd — a company where Lee Jung-jae is associated as a model will also grant 30 million KRW worth of instant rice and food supplies to the Korean Senior Filmmaker Association. Joining the charitable cause, Ceragem has also vowed to provide medical facilities and equipment to the Association, reports All K-pop.
Coming back to Lee Jung-jae, the actor was last seen in Squid Game. His upcoming projects are kept under wraps.
