The Crown found a global audience ever since it premiered on November 4, 2016. The last season of the show covers some of the most remarkable moments in the history of British monarchy.

After seven years, historical period drama The Crown finally came to a close on Thursday when the last six episodes of season 6 were dropped on Netflix. The series documents the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, and the political rivalries and romances that shaped Britain for the second half of the 20th century. The Crown found a global audience ever since it premiered on November 4, 2016. The last season of the show covers some of the most remarkable moments in the history of British monarchy such as the election of Tony Blair, the death of Princess Diana and Princess Margaret, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, the courtship of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Bowles.

Since the show’s completion, the fans have flooded social media with memes, jokes, compliments, complaints, and spoilers about the series.

A handful of posts and memes were dedicated to the final scene of the series which shows actor Claire Foy, Olivia Colman, and Imelda Staunton, who have played Queen Elizabeth throughout the series in one frame. Praising the poignancy of this final scene, an X user wrote, “I just finished watching #TheCrown and I couldn’t help but cry over this beautiful scene with all the three beautiful Elizabeth’s thank you Crown for giving us great 7 years #TheCrown6.”

Another person addressed the same scene on a much lighter note and linked it with Spider-Man: No Way Home, a 2021 film in which all actors who play the lead role of Peter Parker share the screen.

Many people took issue with the sympathetic portrayal of Prince Charles following Princess Diana’s death. Complaining about this depiction, a netizen mentioned, “Netflix do you think we’re stupid?? Charles as a sad loving ex husband?? The worst end ever!! Lies, lies, lies…#TheCrown.”

One of the moments captured in season six is Prince Harry’s Nazi costume controversy of 2005. Referring to this controversy’s portrayal in the show, a fan said, “So the royal family was harder on Harry for marrying Megan than they were when he wore a Nazi costume??? #TheCrown.”

A person shared a clip of Regina George’s iconic meltdown scene from Mean Girls and stated, “Charles coming home from the wedding after Elizabeth didn’t announce she was stepping down for him #TheCrown.”

People also voiced their opinions about the cast section for season 6. Complaining about Prince Harry’s casting, a person noted, “Never felt so irritated by a character in #TheCrown than I do right now with this weird skeleton #Harry which looks nothing like him btw. It’s like they just picked a ginger from the street. And why have they aged him? #TheCrown6 #TheCrownNetflix #Netflix #PrinceHarry”.

Another person praised actor Jonathan Pryce for playing Prince Philip and asserted, “Jonathan Pryce deserves all of the awards next season for #TheCrown’s final lines alone. THE only choice for Prince Philip.”
