The controversy has escalated due to Shreyas portraying the role of a Christian man in the film and wearing a crucifix locket.

Shreyas Talpade suffered a heart attack and underwent angioplasty, leading to his hospitalisation earlier this week. Currently, he is under doctors’ supervision, and reports indicate that his condition is stable. Concerns about his health have surfaced, particularly after his return from the shooting of the upcoming film Welcome To The Jungle.

Amid this health crisis, an old tweet from Shreyas has resurfaced on social media. The tweet features an apology from the actor for unintentionally disrespecting Hinduism. The accompanying video allegedly shows Shreyas disrespecting the holy symbol ‘Om’ by placing his foot on it. However, it’s crucial to note that this act was part of a scene from his 2012 movie Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal, where he stops a mobile tempo by placing his foot on the front, allowing Nana Patekar to pass through.

The controversy has escalated due to Shreyas portraying the role of a Christian man in the film and wearing a crucifix locket. This has sparked communal sentiments, with trolls suggesting he is unfit to play the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee in his upcoming project, Emergency.

In response to the backlash, Shreyas expressed sincere regret for the incident, stating that it was accidental, and he did not notice the Om sign on the tempo. He conveyed his apology through a tweet, emphasising that he would never intentionally offend anyone or repeat such actions.

Addressing the complexities of shooting, Shreyas mentioned, “There are too many variables to consider while shooting, such as one’s attitude during a scene, particularly the action scenes, the director’s demands, the time restrictions, and a variety of other aspects.” He acknowledged the inadvertent nature of the act and expressed his apologies.

Despite the controversy, Shreyas Talpade is gearing up for his role in Welcome To The Jungle, alongside Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Tushar Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, and Sanjay Dutt. The film is slated to hit theatres on Christmas 2024.
